Dr. Ayakwah was born at the University of Ghana Hospital 10:28 am on 30th April 1979. Indeed the story has it that his parents wanted a female so badly that they thought he was a girl. He was later named Osofo by the nurses in the hospital because he came out in a prayer posture. It was therefore not surprising that his father wanted him to be a catholic priest to accomplish the task he could not complete as an SVD novice at St. Martins in Nsawam Adoagyire.
Matrilineally, Dr. Ayakwah is a Kwahu from Obo.
Education
He started his education in 1983 through home tutoring by his father. They were then living in Donko Krome where his father was a bursar.
Later, Dr. Ayakwah was moved back to Accra to commence primary education at Queen of Peace Catholic School in 1984. In 1995, he got admission to St. Martins Secondary School, Nsawam where he studied General Art. In 1998, after making the grades to attend university, he had to write university entrance examination. He entered University of Ghana in 1999/2000 academic year to peruse his Bachelor of Arts degree programme. He graduated with a major in Economics with Philosophy as his minor.
In 2009, he enrolled on an Master of Science programme at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He completed in two years.
He later joined Middlesex University, UK in 2012 to complete his terminal degree in Economic Policy.
Travels
He is well-travelled: he has visited 18 countries in Europe, Africa and the Americas (South and North) for education, conferences, leisure and business.
Community service
He served as the National President of the Technical University Teachers Association of Ghana (TUTAG) between 2011 and 2012.
He was the TUTAG National General Secretary in 2010.
Currently, he is serving as TUTAG Chairman of Koforidua Technical University branch of the Association.
Dr. Anthony Ayakwah has this to say: “The journey to my terminal degree has not always been rosy. I had to work from the year 2000 to be able to pay my fees. From then I have always been convinced that whatever you want to do, do not procrastinate because there is time for everything. When you miss your time for an action you miss an opportunity to make a difference. The future is now!!!!”.
